Getting to know Brian…
What is the founding business principal that has driven your practice the most?
Many years ago I started our firm through a grass-roots marketing effort by meeting people in the community door to door. Our philosophy has always been if you do the right thing for people they will tell other people. That is what has worked in the past and has continued to help us grow over the years.
What’s something about yourself that may surprise your clients?
I take boxing lessons every Thursday morning. Many of my clients know that I used to run quite a bit. I have done some half marathons and many 5k races over the years, however I have cut back my running significantly and have been trying to mix up my gym routine. Boxing was my father’s favorite sport to watch, so I think he’d be impressed with my skills!
What part of your daily routine do you enjoy most?
I like being a problem solver, a detective; I enjoy coming up with a solution for my client’s needs and concerns. Sometimes that means recommending a particular type of account to achieve their goals, other times I am researching answers to their questions. I know enough about taxes to be dangerous and tax planning has become a larger part of our practice as time goes on. Sometimes simple ideas or changes can make large differences in someone’s long term financial situation.
What is a bucket list vacation destination?
I would like to get to Norway and Denmark in the next few years. I’ve done some traveling to Europe, but want to get to northern Europe. I remember watching the winter Olympics being held in Lillehammer, Norway back in the 90’s and ever since that time I have wanted to get there some day.
If you were an ice cream flavor which one would you be and why?
Birthday Cake. Then every day would be a celebration!

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?
Definitely my attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. With these skills I am able to work efficiently and manage many tasks simultaneously.
On the weekends, you can usually find me…
Working around my house and spending time with my family. If I can manage to pull myself away from those activities you might find me on the golf course or riding my bike.
Who is the biggest influence on your career choice?
Two people really. The first would be my wife, Rachael. She pushes me outside my comfort zone and challenges me to be the best version of myself. My brother-in-law Jeremy has been the most significant mentor to me. He provides me guidance and has always served as a sounding board for me both professionally and personally.
If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be and why?
Washing the dishes! Sometimes it feels like they are never ending. Once I think I am done, more just seem to appear.
What is your favorite Disney movie?
Definitely the original Lion King.

Getting to know Christian…
What brought you to this career?
I love people and I love finance. I am naturally very sociable and I enjoy getting to know people. I have gravitated toward finance, economics, and markets for as long as I can remember. As a kid I remember learning small lessons from trading Pokémon cards, collecting coins, to calculating how many quarts of strawberries I’d need to pick in order to buy one of those nice houses in Manheim Township. Working in this field enables me to use my skills and interests to help others and I find that to be very rewarding.
Where would you like to travel?
I would like to go overseas more. The first time I traveled abroad I was blown away with how interesting and different the society and culture was. I would like to travel to places in order to see and experience the reality of other people across the world. My short list includes London, Singapore, and Tokyo. The longer list would have to include China and Russia.
What is something unusual that you love doing?
I really enjoy drinking Boba Tea and Kombucha! It would not be difficult for you to catch me drinking either of those while listening to one of my favorite business podcasts or the Hamilton musical. Also “porch time”... who knew slowing down to just sit out front on the porch and appreciate beautiful Lancaster County could be so relaxing and enjoyable?

Every year, Amanda and I start at 5:00 pm Thanksgiving night and finish up the next morning around 10:00 am, shopping till we drop then finishing with breakfast.

Christmas is a very special holiday for me. My daughter and I always bake cookies the first Saturday in December...all day! Getting to know Gail...
What is the #1 personality trait needed to perform your job?
The ability to perform more than one task at a time. All at once, the phone will start ringing, a client arrives for an appointment and paperwork is on my desk that needs to be processed ASAP. That’s when I take a deep breath and tell myself “stay calm and carry on”!
What do you enjoy most about your family?
All the smiles and hugs I receive from my grandchildren. Spending time with them at the playground and eating lots of ice cream.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The clients. I enjoy greeting our clients when they arrive for an appointment and having conversations with them. I also enjoy helping to coordinate and plan events for our clients and getting to know them outside of the office.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer?
Relaxing on the beach with a good book and combing the beaches for sea glass while vacationing with family. We have been vacationing together in the Outer Banks with my parents, my sisters, and our families for the past 25 years.
If you had to list three words that are important to you what would they be?
Family, Love, Laughter
